Lydia Ramos, MMS, PA-C, Psychiatry CAQ is a Psychiatric Physician Associate with 7 years of experience in Psychiatry. From youth, she has been both an extrovert and an empath and developed a keen interest in understanding people growing up which over time, combined with a yearning to help people, led to a desire to pursue a medical career in Psychiatry.
Lydia thinks it is important to consider all aspects of life that contribute to physical, mental, and spiritual health – it is a false dichotomy to compartmentalize the mind and body separate from each other. For this reason, Lydia takes her time to get to know patients and considers how nutrition, physical activity, career, hobbies/interests, community, identity/values, and other aspects of life impact mental health in addition to considering things like trauma and systems of oppression.
Lydia is well known amongst her colleagues as being thorough, attentive, and responsive to her patients’ needs. She has spent years cultivating relationships with therapists in the community to have a good understanding of what options there are for therapy for her patients since therapy is often an integral and first-line treatment for many psychiatric conditions. She is also well-versed with the resources in the area for other aspects of treatment that may be necessary for certain patients depending on their symptoms.
Lydia believes in the importance of collaborating with other providers to provide optimal, personalized, holistic, multidisciplinary care. Special niche areas for Lydia include Autism and ADHD as well as Women’s Mental Health (Lydia has a national certification in Perinatal Mental Health). Lydia also has extensive experience treating serious chronic mental illnesses like Bipolar and Schizophrenia as well as many other conditions commonly treated in psychiatry. Though most individuals with Schizophrenia are not appropriate for the private practice outpatient setting, Lydia feels comfortable evaluating patients and determining the appropriate level of care. Lydia also has connections with practices in the area that provide neuropsychological testing for those who may need testing to better differentiate diagnoses.
Lydia has a passion for taking an integrated approach that considers the biological, psychological, and social aspects of a person’s well-being. Integrative psychiatry is evidence-based and draws from all these areas to inform treatment recommendations.
In her personal life, Lydia is a married mother of multiple children and loves traveling, spending her time with family, and friends, being outdoors, singing, and regularly puts into practice self-care and stress management that she also recommends for patients.
